Lazy Sturkie

I bought a new giant fat ball feeder. There's only a teeny fat ballt here, but sturkie has found the lazy way of doing it.

It's a bit snug though

Starlings

I made a nice cake for the birds and the starlings were just fighting over it all the time. No one else got a look in. Just a tray full of chicken fat, some ripped up pita bread, seed and a bit of chicken. Leave it to set and put out.

It rained heavily yesterday and this perch was the best place to be

There were a few more baby sturkies about. These 2 followed dad around ...

Even onto the fat cake holder - a bit of a squeeze there, can't tell who's feathers are who's

More baby birds

I have a few baby great tits in the garden. They are a softer, fluffier version of the adult (nicer colours too)

The baby goldfinches are thick. They sit in the tray of the niger feeder munching on the seeds in the tray. Except that I gave it a good clean the other day and therefore there's barely any seeds in the tray as they haven't sussed to get them from the holes. I felt so sorry for them I had to go down and put seeds in the tray.

I haven't seen the nut hatch about much recently, but he does have a junior.

And I thought all the sturkies had grown up, but there were a couple of babies nagging daddy for some food.

Sturkies Scrapping

They do like to scrap, lol

Wet

The birds are not enjoying this wet weather. This bunch have been sheltering for at least half an hour and some are still there. They are just sat there.

And the others are just sat in the tree. Note the little baby blue tit. He's jus scrunched into the corner.

He doesn't look a happy chappie at all.

Baby Sturky videos

More babies

After being away on holidays for 2 weeks I have come home to find my garden over run with baby starlings. There are at least 15 or so. And not much sign of any other birds about. They are so funny as they are big enough to be able to eat the food themselves, but if there's an adult about, they will folow him everywhere.

I did see a blue tit feeding 2 babies which is ever so cute

Baby Sturky 2

The baby sturky was around quite a bit today. He wasn't the only baby around. There were 2 baby chaffinches being fed by dad. Three baby sparrows also being fed by dad (they do this ever so cute "shiver" with their wings as he approaches with food). I did see 5 of them on a branch at one point shivering their wings. There was also the baby blackbird - all on his own and a young collared dove who sat and ate the nyger seed with a goldfinch.

It was wholemeal bread.

Baby Sturky

I have got a baby starling. He's lush. Very bumbling and not quite sure on his feet and wings.

Starlings and fat candles

The starlings have been eating machines recently and got through a whole fat candle in less than a day.
"Who moi?"

"moi?"

"Surely not moi?"

So I mad it a little more difficult for them. And ordered bigger ones hahaha.

I think this is a baby blackbird. It looks more like the penguin off "The Wrong Trousers"

The coal tits have been enjoying the fat too.

I'm not sure that this is a lady sparrow or a baby sparrow. Him and his mate seem not quite with it, which is why I thought they were juveniles

And the jackdaws are enjoying this fat cake

April

Some of today's birdies:
Wood pigeons

A lovely chaffinch
Who has decided he likes my seed feeder
Starlings are lovely looking birdies
And jackdaws have the look of evil about them haha
Managed to tempt the greenfinch to the close side of the garden
The buds are starting to, well, bud, I suppose.
